Cavalry Swords
The Cavalry sword is a sword that has a curved blade and wide blade which would often be used for slashing the enemy while staying fully mounted on the horse. The term Cavalry is the word used to describe soldiers that fought on horseback. While one might think that infantry and cavalry were the same because of the use of horses that would be an incorrect assumption. The Cavalry actually fought while still on the horses, while the Infantry used horses for mobility but dismounted in order to fight. In order to fight while still riding the horse presented some challenges for the soldier, therefore a special sword was needed that would be appropriate for the Cavalry to use for this purpose.
We can see throughout history that the Cavalry was used successfully in many battles by forces like the U.S. Marines Corps and the French Cavalry during the days of Napoleon to name just a few. The Cavalry had many advantages over the enemy because of the speed of the horse and the height advantage. In it's earliest form, the Cavalry would have fought from Chariots, but as time progressed cloths were used as saddles and soldiers rode on the horse directly, giving them an advantage in terms of allowing them to be more nimble and much higher off the ground.
